DMR build

Post2014-01-16 / 07:17 UTC GMT +00:00

Summery listed at the bottom

As many know, when I can make it out I usually sport my massive Cyma/echo 1 SVD
As far as internals go everything is pretty spot on besides the inner barrel, which apart from the rest of the parts that come out of the box, upon inspection is of very poor quality.
I went on to research what kind of barrel would be best for my svd, and even came up by Gunny's post in the tech corner. However the one thing that I can say for sure is that the global airsoft community is about as unified on the subject as the the former Country of Yugoslavia.
After spending my day researching the topic over and over finding fairly hard evidence, and convincing statements for every side of the inner barrel debate, I simply can't figure out which barrel would be best as every forum contradicts the other.
My SVD is alright with range (max range of around 200 ft.), and fine with accuracy and basic functions at the moment. However Im not seeing the huge advantage of my current (stock) 685mm inner barrel. Often I find myself having to rely almost entirely on ambushing and hiding which personally I find great for going at it alone, but useless when engaging head on. Especially when my ak can land shots in full automatic, although around 20-30ft closer, while being half the size of my SVD

I need a barrel that will keep around the same accuracy (or better) but mainly increase range. Ive heard from a few sites that the way to go is a PDI 6.05 (not sure the length though), or a madbull black python 6.03 (possibly 509mm)
I wouldnt annoy you guys if I didnt spend my whole day researching first and would like some advice.

Summery:
Me want new barrel for SVD. Everyone says different things. Help.

PS. Im sure if this is the correct spot for this post. My apologies if it is miscategorized

Buy a better hop up and a prommy tight bore. I'm pretty sure everyone here will agree with me. And 200ft accuracy is pretty damn accurate.

My hop up is pretty good right now, madbull orange nub and dial tuning (all metal), and I suspect it has been carrying me thus far, especially after inspecting my barrel. I wouldnt be complaining about 200 ft on just about any other aeg (especially an aeg) but its almost four feet long. Im pretty set on either pdi, prommy, or (least likely) a madbull but what Im really torn on is the size and length

Go prommy. I got a prommy in my VFC now, and when it finally gets warmed up, I've already noticed a distance and fps difference. Quite a big one too. Prommys are a higher up on the $$$ scale, but worth it

It is "said" anything over 455 mm isn't better for accuracy. There's been a lot of debate with bore size being tightbore and widebore. I have looked into what barrel set up I will be getting next and I will get a prommy with r hop.
I'm so operator when my battery dies I take my barrel out and use it as a blow gun.

Like Meat said, prommy, and I have found that even with lower fps a longer barrel helps way more for my m16.
Sometimes you have to just find out what works best by trial and error. And $ of course!
Some people think I am trying to be sneaky, its really that my eyes are not as good and I have to make sure its a tree and not the enemy! Trees do not call hits. I have shot a few.

my opinion and just my opinion here, to get 200+feet of range is amazing. if you are looking for more range its time to start looking into Z hops/Rhops.

my opinion, dont get a new barrel, try a z hop which will cost you 20 bucks and see how that goes.

Andres was getting 230+feet with a .30 at 350 FPS. :o

@Gunny

Didn't Andres also put a prommy barrel in his though?

+1 for R-hop.

Range is not determined from your barrel per say. It's a cross between compression, FPS and bucking combo

If you are happy with your accuracy get a z hop kit and PROPERLY install it. Many people find that a good install will yield better accuracy as well as range.
