AEG magazine and GBB magazine maintenance.

Post2013-11-01 / 15:47 UTC GMT +00:00

Due to special request, this short thread is going to be on AEG and GBB magazine maintenance.
Fist rule in Airsoft, if you dont take care of your gear, your gear is not going to take care of you.
Second rule in Airsoft, DO NOT BUY SHITTY CHEAP MAGAZINES.
Without a functioning magazine your Super oober awesome AEG is no more than a stick that makes noise.

Right out of the gate I purchased 8 PTS P mags for roughly 30ish bucks a piece. The cost of all those magazines stung at first, but in the long run I’m glad I didn’t cheap out on Emag brand or other lower quality magazines.

I can count on one hand the magazine related issues I have had in my Airsoft career since I purchased high quality magazines.

If you notice your magazine is not feeding like it should or the follower is stuck somewhere in limbo this is what I have done to solve the problem.
Find a piece of Tupperware that your magazine can fit inside, and of course have a sealing lid that goes with it.
If you’re dealing with a Midcap or low cap magazine take all the screws apart and carefully insert it into the Tupperware carefully closing the lid so your magazine doesn’t prematurely explode into a million pieces. Once the lid is on give it a shake and let your magazine come apart. This way you are sure not to loose any critical pieces. Remove all dirt and debris that accumulates in the magazine and give it a nice hose down with silicone spray.
Stretch your spring slightly to regain some strength and reinstall everything. Give it a test with some bb’s and you should be good to go.

AEG high Cap.
High cap magazine are more complicated than Mid caps. If you are unsure of what you are doing give it to someone who has experience in the matter. Follow the same instructions as the midcap magazine except don’t shake the magazine inside the Tupperware or you can break some delicate parts.

GBB magazines.
The best way to keep your magazine leak free is preventative maintenance. I have been using the same Madbull propane adapter with an oil reservoir for 3 years and it works like a dream. Once every 2ish months ill put a couple drops of silicon oil into the reservoir and when I gas up my mags it keep the seals moist, and my mag leak free. If you’re beyond the point of preventative maintenance what has worked for me in the past it taking apart your GBB and letting all the seals soak in silicon oil overnight. Doing this swells the o rings back up to factory spec and should (fingers crosses) create a tight seal. If that doesn’t work your up shit creek. You can try to fine new seals on the interweb, or use some Gasket sealer from an automotive store.

When you store your gas Mags between game days do not leave them empty. Fill your magazines up 20-40%. This will keep the seals from crapping out on you.
