Gas rifles vs AEG

Post2013-09-16 / 18:39 UTC GMT +00:00

Just wondering if there is an advantage to one over the other or is it just preference.

AEGs you can use all year round. GBBs you're kind of restricted to only using during the warmer months due the high probability of leaky mags (colder weather = leaky mags).

People like the GBBRs due to their realistic feel and handling. But they can be a little finicky to upgrade and maintain. Plus, the gun itself does take a fair amount of stress from the bolt blowback, and most of these rifles are made out of pot metal, so they aren't the strongest.

Where with AEGs you can use them year round in any type of environment and condition, you just sacrifice a bit of realism. Only exceptions to that are Systemas and PTWs, but even those dont have that blowback feel

I just picked up my first gas gun....and am already fixing a couple leaky mags, and the inability to go full auto. Fortunately for Google, its just 30 min out of my day. That being said, I know I'm going to be constantly tinkering with it which is fine, because I enjoy it that sorta thing. If you don't....well, I dunno I bought my gun used but it sounds like most gas guns like to be spread wide and given the old college try sooner then later.

Definite win on the realism and feel though.

The GBB rifles look pretty cool. Seems like the first thing I did when I received my AEG was start taking it part so fiddling with it would be an issue for me as long as it works on game day.

Go for it, or even better yet, see if you can fire one or better yet, play a quick round first. They are a big investment gun aside. Think of how much you shoot per round, then remember mags only hold 30 rounds....do the math, @ $60 roughly a mag, that adds up very fast.

Ill be playing this Saturday with my gbbr hopefully (weather depending) your more then welcome to fire off a mag and see what you think, I know that's all I did to make me want one.

Again, any GBB is only good during the warmer months. So basically 5-6 months of the year it's collecting dust, along with each $50 mag you have for it.

My plan...be it an expensive one is to get the MAGPUL PTS Masada and the BETA one conversion kit so I could change to a GBB in the summer.
