The person or tech that is working on the gun is 60% of the equation. You have to have a good quality base to start with and that comes back to the first point QUALITY. A quality "Brand" of gun, usually they have put some R&D into their brand to make a customer buy again. It doesn't have to have a big Airsoft band name to have a quality based internals. I have opened some name brand guns and was shocked to see what they have put in their guns. On the other hand I just fixed a Lonex M4. It is considered a starter gun, But the fit and finish was impressive internals 7 out of 10. If they keep on building them at that standard they will make a good name for themselves (they need to use a little locktie on the piston head )

Some guns (low quality) are not worth trying to fix or even with up-graded parts I have been working on a No name G36 that I felt sorry for the guy because it was falling apart in his hands. I thought I would just drop an new G36 gearbox in new hop-up some other up-grades and he would be playing in no time. I have had this gun now for 6 months in and out. I like other gun tech will not stop working on it until the gun is right. The ironic thing is I have lent my gun to the owner of the G36 and he kills me all the time.
With 20/20 vision we should have just put the money into a new gun. I learned a lesson I will NOT work on name brand guns again.


My point about Rampages gun was to do with his good luck on that KWA S-system. It’s nothing to do with my ability as a gun tech.

I only ever need 2 guns. My main VFC M4 which is almost perfect, and my back up VFC SCAR-L. and I've only had to use my SCAR once due to my M4 going down. Quality wins 99% of the time. I don't really get all these guys going "AAAH IM ADDICTED TO BUYING!!!" Screw that noise. Like gunny says, Upgrade the living piss out of it. What's the point of having all those guns if you're barely gonna use em?

Good - owning one high quality
Better - owning one high quality + one or multiple low/med quality
BEST - Multiple high quality

You need atleast 2 guns because it's frustrating coming to the field with a non-working gun. I remember coming to Panther one day, paid my field fee, attended safety speech and when it was time to chrono/test my gun..it wasn't working. That's when I was new and I had to go home that day

You can only shoot one gun at a time (and still be able to reload).

I've always been amazed at how long your KWA m4 has continued to function with little to no problems. I wish I had some of your luck. I guess if your in a long term monogamous relationship with your AEG she will love you a long time.

Well , being a gun owner/collector of everything I like get OR plan to own, I've seen allot of quality issues with various AEG manufactures. someone said D-Boys was down on the list as low quality. I would have to disagree with that statement since my D-boys FN Scar L runs just fine and even though it has been upgraded, I have not any issues with it other than the stock cracking off due to very cold weather that one day. I would feel comfortable to say that D-Boys Clones are at least mid range to the likes of A&K Clones which we know a good work horses on the field. The lowest of the low has to be APS and there first gen AEGS, DO NOT BUY ONE!!! However their updated Generation AEG's may change, but I'm not going to see for myself after what had happened with their first run, Hell no.
I plan on buying a Gen.3/Gen.3 pro SRC XM8 shortly and see what they are made of. By the looks of it and feel, this rifle seems solid but to be sure, I'll dive into it when I finish paying for it. (Poco has a dam Lay-away plan...)

I take choice 3, have a couple good ones and buy and sell 1 or 2 others until you find another gun you might want to keep. Thats the great thing about airsoft, there are soooooo many different guns out there. Look at Dice, always something new.

but I think the general consensus here is correct.....low end cheap guns are exactly that but there are a couple exceptions at least the cheaper gun is worth buying but you will have to upgrade them eventually.

even the high end guns you will have to spend money on...don't believe what you hear about Systema, Magpul, G&P etc etc, all the guns near $1000 or higher, they all need work on them, I know I have them all, bought and sold rebuilt and repaired just about every brand out there and built a fair number from scratch....they all break and all will need to be worked on with in the first year you own them if not after the first game you use it (hop rubbers, trigger switches etc).

but to answer your question, buy the higher end gun that you can afford, you likely will have a better starting point and have to fix less in the long run, also as money permits have a backup for sure, would you go out in the bush with no spare tire?

good lower end guns....Cyma have impressed me , I have a couple, with a hop up rubber and a good piston they are great, A&K are good also JG/Echo1 gets a third.....the best middle ground Gun I have seen in action and opened up was a SRC very good parts but not without their problems either!

But seriously. I have bought low end guns that are magic and high end guns that are magic.

For me I like a variety. Sometimes you get lucky with a low end gun and it turns out to be your fave. On a good day I can rock a pistol worth 39.99 (socom) and my PPSH 220.00 and enjoy the day WAY more than bringing out my PTS Masada and KWA PTP blah blah blah.

Shoot me with a 2000.00 PTW to get me to wear a red hat.

Dice, to the esencs of the matter, I have been taken out by a high end PTW shot by a Marksman DamageMFT, 6" off the ground hitting me 180 feet away in a prone posision , to be out witted by a guy with a knife. it is all about working with what you've go.( Dam you HOTSAUSE). The first ten months playing TMS I refused to buy a $600 dolars used gun or a clearsoft gun for $250+ that I know I could not up grade or break it in two or three games. So I used a clearsoft gun that Haircut bought for a $98 in the States. Fun thing we smugled it a crosss the border got caught . CBSA laught at us and sent us on your way. It shots 275 fps. so I had to get up a close to even partisapate in any battle. I know I had a few vets on the run (I'll not mention name's) with that pea-shooter
