Want to get PAL or RPAL Certified?

I figured I would start a thread with some info about where one can get their PAL and such as I enjoy shooting and recommend it to everyone. I will start with where I got mine and what classes they offer so if you also have info on a great place to get certified this the place to put.

they offer Non-Restricted and Restricted PAL and C.O.R.E. hunting courses

They also allow you to challenge the tests without taking the course like some other places but unless you are extremely familiar with multiple firearms and the laws surrounding firearms and ownership I recommend attending the course as Kent and his wife run a very good course and have some outstanding instructors working for them.

Gunny is right, Real steel is extremely fun but you defanitly don't get 5000 rounds for 20bucks so if you plan on shooting lots,like i do, then you will need to find a firearm that is practical to fire. I own a mossberg 715t which is a AR22 and fun as hell to fire but the best part is that 22lr ammo is very inexpensive and I routinely fire 300-500 rounds twice a week out in the bush behind my house which is legal to fire a non-restricted (I checked with RCMP). My other rifles are expensive and only are used for hunting and my handguns are pricey except for my GSG 1911-22lr but I have to pay to use a range for that so it adds up as well.

Im actually glad you said that as that's something I had my eye on. I know its a money pit, just like airsoft...but its a fun money pit Its good to hear that your actually allowed to fire on your property, I'm out on 10 acres in aldergrove so its good to know that if I want to do that I can.

Best to check with your local regulations before you shoot there TJ. 10 acres is not big enough as even .22 rounds are dangerous over half a mile. Some can shoot accurately out to 300 - 400 yards. I dont know if they are still acailable but I used to get CCI mini caps and they were about 800 fps and quieter than a gas blow back airsoft gun.
And in my opinion the Ruger 10/22 is the best .22 for your dollar and there is every aftermarket thing out there for them.
And for backpacking they have a takedown model too.

it used to be that what you do on your own property is fine, as long as you dont in-danger anyone or anything else! but here in the lower mainland where laws and by-laws are every where, if you are in city limits you are likley under noise by-laws and somewhere in there they may have thrown in discharging firearms is a no-no! as Bushman states, 10 acres is big not not big enough to for a 22 cal, I used to shoot 10-22 target rifles at prairie dogs out to 250 yrds back in the day, a 22 will travel a lot farther than 250 rds.

Wher I shoot is not on my property but in the mountains as I live on the maple ridge mission border and I checked with the authorities before I just started blasting away. The warning label on the box of 22lr states that the round is dangerous up 2.5km so ten acres without a big ass berm or bag drop might not be the best.

I would check your local bylaws and go from there.

Hmmmm...You gentlemen make a good point, better safe the sorry right? Im out on the ALR with far to many trees around me, but you are defiantly right, checking is a good idea.

But while I have your guys attention, a buddy of mine and myself were talking today and I mentioned I was going to go for my restricted, and he actually mentioned the same person as noted above, so when I went to ask him which courses, cost, etc etc he said that he only took his firearms safety course, which apparently is just $160. Would that be accurate as I just want to start with long barrel firearms? Or was I misunderstanding the requirements to legally obtain and operate a non-restricted firearm?

To legally purchase and possess a non-restricted firearm you must complete the non-restricted course which will give you your PAL, this would get you long rifles and shotguns of a certain barrel length and caliber. You can get some interesting firearms with a non-restricted cert which includes a Kriss Vector with the longer barrel.
