lazyfiredragon - radio necessary no... but extremely useful and helpful in any game that spreads out beyond line of sight, which quite often happens on a 55 acre field like panther or burma's even larger area

As char noted, you either have a radio of your own to ensure you can reach your team or at least know what's going on, or you latch onto someone experienced who has one and knows how to use it.

If all you use it for is to hear all the team instructions and coordination, you will enjoy the game much more.

I've been perusing the internet for the past while looking for a radio that I like and I've narrowed my search down to two radios.I'm looking for someone else'e input to tell me which radio is better in terms of range and clarity.
(I don't have a lot of know how about radio's)

For games, you will need GMRS capable radios. The Tyt radio doesn't look like it can transmit in the GMRS ranges.

Both of these radios can use amateur frequencies, so you will likely need an amateur licence to use them. Also, even though radio regulations seem less enforced, GMRS energy limit for Canadian transmitting is 2 W. The 4 and 5 W capabilities put you at some small risk of charges (which carry fines and jail time). You would join a relatively long list of players that are in this higher energy category. But our sites involve a lot of opportunity to absorb the radio transmission into the vegetation.

Also, these energy levels are much smaller than the 10 to 50 W mobile radios which could cause much more interference to the radio spectrum.

Most important, the Baofeng is configured to allow you to transmit and receive on GMRS frequencies, while the Tyt looks like it may be unable to transmit GMRS.
