The sentry looks relatively simple to build, it’s just connecting servos to an arduino, my worry is with his software. In the videos its always in a open area with lots of contrast between the background and the target, it would be interesting to see how well it targets people in camo/if it works in a denser environments then a backyard.

Im not sure how it would work in a more dense environment. There are two different software to choose from though, and worse comes to worse theres manual control. I wouldnt recommend this too much for woodlands though as its definitely going to be much less accurate than a person firing. It would be nice to set up in narrow choke points to prevent advance though.

Unfortunately the rules state you must be looking down your sights, or the gun itself to prevent blind firing, which would also mean sentry guns would not be allowed. Cool idea though.
Some people think I am trying to be sneaky, its really that my eyes are not as good and I have to make sure its a tree and not the enemy! Trees do not call hits. I have shot a few.

also dont forget that you have to hump that thing in and out of the bushes, then you have to set it up and calibrate it to the movement of the trees and bushes when the wind blows so it doesnt go postal on every moving thing

Shadow, I believe that Cmag's thinking of the other meaning. ("oh, baby. oh, baby. oh.")

bushman raises a good point. Ours rules require players to employ judgment and control during shooting. The only way we might consider this in view of the blind firing rule, would be using a gun-sight camera with the remote control. The operator would also need to be relatively nearby to make sure nobody is intercepting their signal and tampering with it. Loses cool factor pretty quick.

Alternatively, you could rig up a blind that looks like an automatic sentry and have players assigned to "role" play as auto sentry guns. Rotate players in to the role; have them act like automatic full-auto cannons.

There are a few alternatives. The most expensive one is live feed cameras, so very technically someone is behind the sight. This is the most expensive option. Another I have seen is one that fires no projectile and makes a loud bang. They had a few at Mason Relic. They ran off of a relay and a propane tank. The third is a gun with really low FPS, and high ROF. Something like 300 FPS and running 0.20g BBs. 300 FPS can hurt close, close range, but shouldn't injure anyone.

In my opinion, unless it was combat effective, it's likely that the novelty would wear off quickly though. It is a neat ideas though.
