I'm a bit set on an l96 styled rifle as silly as it may seem. Gonna try and cosplay (lmao autocorrected to cod play) again, so it would be kinda cool to mix two hobbies into one. hopefully I don't screw up this one

I did hear some less than good things about the maruzen though. That and even though I looked (although maybe not hard enough) I couldn't find anywhere that it would be sold other than milsig which is kind of over priced imo. The TM on is locally at trigger, which is fair I suppose for Canada buutttttt I heard that it's actually terrible for upgrades, which is weird for TM

L96s seem to be iffy, pricey, or hard to upgrade ;-;

What you heard is wrong. I had build and upgraded CA M24, MARUZEN APS2 SV, MARUZEN APS2 OR, MARUZEN Type 96 and TM VSR 10 G-Spec with ease.

Oh man I think I read a crappy review and that stuck in my head. I read the comments and everyones saying theres a ton of parts. :oops:

Do you think the TM would be worth the extra 300-400$ though? Anyone knows how it compares to the maruzen?

I have spent well over $600 on my TM VSR. and that's over the cost of the stock gun itself. Parts don't necessarily make up the gun. its how they are installed.

Is it worth it???? well no your putting hundreds of dollars into a toy gun. its a labour of love, and that's it.

that well placed sniper kill is more satisfying than 10 kills with a AEG. watching your target call his hit and have NO IDEA where you are.... AWESOME.

Not sure if thats insulting or encouraging.

Im going to take it as encouraging, but I dont plan on having a sniper as priority, it was more that it was on sale, and I would have picked one up had it seemed worth it. Im a terrible sucker for sales. Ill wait for the day I can get a TM L96 tho :)

Great choice and plan. Just an advice. Next time you come out and play go find/watch/follow/learn how a airsoft sniper operates. ;)

I went with the Tokyo Marui L96, it's a great gun. The Tokyo Marui G-Spec has the best potential from what I've seen, though nowhere near as pretty as the L96. The VSR style hop-up is definitely better than the L96, I don't know why they changed it. The VSR also has a better time maintaining air seal. Not that the L96 isn't worth it, but I have found it to be more challenging to upgrade. It'll do the same job with enough love, but it definitely has more quirks.
I never wear an emblem, garment or title I have not earned. I never pretend to be, claim to be nor impersonate someone or something I am not. I never diminish, disrespect nor depreciate the sacrifices of true heroes. I utilize military style gear, equipment and tactics as they are the best and most appropriate tools for the job. I am a combat sports athlete.

You also have to think about the size and weight of the rifle, I have had both and the L96 looks great, but it is bigger and heavier than the VSR. A lot of the time you are on the ground moving or creeping thru bushes. And bipods are nice sometimes, but mostly they just add weight and get caught on bushes. A lighter rifle is much nicer, I even went lighter and have a Dragunov now.
If I were to go bolt action I would highly recommend the VSR. TM. But others are compatible with parts.
Or get Damage to build you a gun. I recommend that even more.
Some people think I am trying to be sneaky, its really that my eyes are not as good and I have to make sure its a tree and not the enemy! Trees do not call hits. I have shot a few.
