Radios, headsets and other life savers

Looking for good value, reliable, easy to use... I know of a few, but for milsim application, what are your takes? Places to buy, cost ballparks

For radios, check out Ebay and look at the Puxing 777s or 888s. A lot of us use them, or something similar to them. For headsets, check out place like ebairsoft.com, airsoftpeak.com, or ehobbyasia.com. You can usually get a decent headset that will last you for a year or so for about $25-$30.

Also, Fleetwood Digital in Surrey has Chinese made radios you can use, similar grade to Puxing (Chinese).

Keeping in mind we use the open FRS/GMRS frequencies, you should focus on suitably rated radios.

Holy crap, if you play for 5 years that's a total cost of $150!

I guess that means lupo's Atlantic Industries rig is worth somewhere around 10 years of play.

Baofeng are pretty grate when you consider the cost Iv been looking at a pair new in box free shipping for $86. I will also be trying out a pryme boom head set soon review to come but seems pretty good at $75 with puck style ptt.

I'll make a recommendation. Wouxun, which are a little better than Linton. Kenwood pin sets, very water resistant, $10 can grab you a high gain antenna, and spare batteries are $18 or less. Available from Capital Airsoft in Edmonton. The owner Jeff is a nice guy. The Wouxun runs FRS/GMRS, and full UHF/VHF band. They also have a dual channel setup, and are easy to clone. So admins can run their squad channel, and alternately listen in on their admin, safety, or emergency channels at the same time. All you do is push one button to toggle broadcasting to the other channel you're listening to. So you can hear important chatter, but squad commands don't take up important radio waves. Mine has been running for years now.

Time to look into encouraging people to get their amateur radio licences!

GMRS gear is officially limited to internal antennas and VHF/UHF is either amateur, commercial or marine. (Perhaps we can look into getting LMAG a set of commercially licensed frequencies nobody else can use.)

I'm just itching to have us all either licensed amateurs or on our own commercial frequencies.

Imagine

• having our own repeater set up to make sure we can cover the whole field
• or making it so the team's base radio station can actually get "taken out" (deactivated) in game for real, and need "repair" to reactivate it
• or having two repeaters (one per team) and having them "cut out" and "come back up" part way through the game as scenario conditions dictate
• having RTO's in each unit with full-length antennas

or

• downed pilots carrying actual transmitters getting searched for by a rescue team who has an amateur with a direction-finding antenna to "foxhunt" for their transmitter, and the other team just combing the countryside
• or foxhunting for a black box while the defenders try to find it without any radio help -- if the tracker gets shot, that team has to search the old-fashioned way, too

(these ones actually only need one or two hams in LMAG who have rigged up the transmitters and trackers)
