Where to start

Im not completely new to it and know some of the basics. I used to have a velocity arms m4a1 which was a pretty good gun I think, but unfortunately I sold it awhile ago, when I was tight on money. I was so stupid. I know a few places to look, and used to frequent poco a lot. Currently I am thinking of an l85a1 as its an interesting little bullup, although perhaps theres some downsides I dont know about. Ill worry more about it a bit more when Im closer to have the money though. For now Ill probably just rent.

I suppose what I meant to say as Im just looking for a mentor figure. When I first tried playing I didnt really have anyone to show me the ropes or go and help me find games, so I was just kind of lost. I was really scared going into something, with knowledge that I wasnt really sure was right or wrong and was scared of being judged for that, having little experience. Its kind of weird, but I have a bit more confidence when theres somewhere around. Kinda shy, and its kinda stupid I guess. Maybe its a bit much to ask haha. But if anyones willing to meet up and talk and show me some stuff before a game day that would be super cool!

Im not used to forums so I dont know how to qoute, but I have read the information before and read similar when looking at other groups when first trying to play.

And for the profile picture thanks, c3 reminded me I should probably get back into airsoft, even though I know its kind of a silly show.

L85 is a pretty slick rifle. The real steel one isn't really friendly to lefties (like myself) for weapons manipulation, but that doesnt really matter in airsoft too much, considering with an AEG all you're doing in inserting and removing mags. Also, you're getting an M16 length barrel in a package that is the size of an M4 with the stock fully collapsed. I believe Airmax has (or did have) an L85 AEG, so he can chime in a bit more on how he likes his. And I know Jsae looooves bullpups

But each of us will tell you, go to the local stores. If you see a gun that grabs your attention, ask to take a look at it, and see how it feels, do some research on the gun, and if you're satisfied with it, buy it.

And as for mentoring, i don't know of a single player at LMAG who wouldn't give a new player some direction and valuable advice on and off the field.

There are many things in life that will make you scared: Taxes, Spiders of abnormal size, Werewolves, Werespiders, Werespiders collecting taxes and Reptilian shape shifters taking of the world by posing as world leaders.

Note that an amalgamation of individuals who pseudo-murder each other with 6mm spherical projectiles is not on the list. As intimidating as some players may look or attempt to act both on and off the field, you should never let that scare you. Set all the gear and attitude aside and we are just LARPers of the military genre. If you are scared of a LARPer, you have way more problems than knowing nothing.

Always keep in mind that at one point we were all in the position you are in currently. We knew nothing and we were surrounded by a group of people that LOOK like they know what they are doing. Remember, you can put clothes on sticks and it will scare crows but it doesn't change the fact that they are still sticks. Everyone of us has gone through the same process. If anyone tells you otherwise they are full of shit. We all started out both having and knowing nothing, like anything time will change that. We were all the person who comes to the field with just a gun, a set of goggles and the willingness to learn. In time we put clothes on our sticks and began scaring crows, with time you will find what you like/want from this hobby/lifestyle.

Like anything in life it's about taking that first step, running comes later. Also you get the chance to look really cool and dress up like whatever the f;)k you want and shoot people, hypothetically shooting of course.

SA80 or L85's are known as the current British army rifle of a Bullpup design, which you may know of.
In terms of Airsoft, there are 3 good AEG brands of the L85's which are ARES, ICS and G&G.
ARES line of L85's are pricey but they have upgraded their line to full metal gear boxes versus the old plastic gear boxes which lead to poor compression problems. Also note that ARES L85 have very good trade marks on their rifles.

ICS L85's are popular workhorse's with adjustable spring guides and have a much better take down system for maintenance. Loops is the only other chap I know that owns one.

G&G also has a good looking L85, however I haven't heard much about the performance.

I current own and operate a old STAR L85A2 which is now ARES. I have many parts and upgrades for this rifle including a AGSA80 40mm Launcher for the aka "BigDaddy" configuration. I also have the some what new Daniel Defense L85 railed handguard system from Madbull which looks awesome for the L85!
Also lets not forget the WE GBBR L85A2 on the market which I intend to buy this year, because I just have too!
L85's aren't very common in the lower mainland but they do show up from time to time and always catch eyes once in awhile. As with L85A1 there are currently a few different models to consider such as

Drunken Teddy helped me a lot So Im probably coming with him on sunday hopefully.
He hooked me up with a good starter, but then I went crazy and just spent the money on a VFC sr15 from craigslist (hopefully it holds together). Figured Id be playing a lot, and he had good things to say about the brand and the ones he had seemed pretty great! I honestly wouldnt be playing if it werent for him. Probably annoyed the hell out of him with all my questions.

Im pretty excited to play a real game! Hopefully the weather wont be awful. It will be my first day off for 2 weeks.

I really love the bullup designs, so much barrel, in so little space I think I heard that the G&G l85s have some reliability issues, but I do hope to get an l85 in the future! A bit hard to find locally though, but I probably havent looked hard enough. I dont know if the sites you linked me to ship to canada though, but I may be mistaken. The l85 is one of my favourite rifles, as it seems really sturdy, and again, the wonders of being a bullup. It also has a much longer history than newer bullups like the tavor. Thanks for the info tho!

I own a VFC SR15E3 IWS Combat master (11.5" barrel), I have no want or need to get any other AEG (aside from a FCC HK416, but that's $2400). It's lasted me for almost 2 years, and besides the usual fixes (piston, nozzle, taplet plate, etc), it's pretty much bullet proof. Solid externals, great internals (besides the pistion. VFC pistons are crap out of the box), and fully ambidextrous, which is perfect for a lefty like me. Super easy to get it running to Systema like performance.

Lol glad to help, hopefully the new gun is in good condition internally, Craigslist is pretty hit and miss. But at least it is nice enough to be worth fixing if it isn't in great shape.
