Hey everyone my name is Jaryd and I am new to air-soft. I have done some paint balling and have been obsessed with Nerf and pretty much everything that shoots stuff for most of my life. I am very certain that I will enjoy airsoft because its a combination of many thing I love to do. I also think that if a sport doesn't hurt every one in a while, its not really sport. Lately I have been a bit obsessive with the whole gear researching and am a firm believer in the buy once, buy right philosophy. That being said I'm not buying every overpriced piece of gear on the market, only what is essential and good value. Im looking at one of airsoft gi's FMG4s because it seems to be a very sold package with good externals and internals for the money. If anyone has any huge issues with this please dont hesitate to let me know. The other purchase im not 100% sure about is the KWA 120rd mid caps im looking at getting rather than high caps (getting 6). What do you guys use and are there mil sim days with only mid caps? I'm gonna end my novel here. Thanks

I never recommend importing airsoft guns, especially to a new player, generally it's safest to buy within Canada. Make sure you read up on the laws around replica firearms before doing so. It's important to know that even if it's legal to import an airsoft gun it may be held to confirm it meets canadas import laws, this means it could be seized and not seen by you for months even if it meets all the import laws.

If you are set on importing it you may wish to speak with airsoftgi before ordering, see if they can confirm it shoots over 366 fps and preferably attach something to the package stating that it has been tested to meet Canadian laws and what fps it tested at.

I'll also recommend going to a local store like trigger or Milsig to hold some guns and see what you like first. You may even want to consider renting for a game to get a sense for what style of gameplay you like and buy a gun that suits your style.

I use midcaps with 1 high cap as a last resort but some game days do restrict you to mid caps.

i tell this to countless amount of new players.. RENT/BORROW a gun and play at least once before spending all this money. i have seem people spend tons of money thinking they will like the sport, play a handfull of times and then they are never to be seen again.

that being said, Buy local. there are MANY in Canada companies that will sell/ship you a AEG with NO trouble at all. dont get involved with all that importing bullshit. trust me......


Find something that works for you and have a couple of extra magazines and batteries. High caps work great but they are very loud and annoying to wind. i only use midcaps and love them.

Thanks for the tips! That a really good idea to communicate with airsoft GI. I will go into a shop and feel up some guns too. I am pretty set on this specific gun because externals are a big deal to me and full metal guns tend to be very expensive and even more expensive in Canada.

I have researched the importing laws and it is considered an uncontrolled firearm if it shoots under 500FPS and this one shoots around 400. Uncontrolled firearms can cross the border but are still considered firearms if you commit a crime with them (which I dont plan to). What I might do is ship directly to Canada and not to the US to drive across myself.

How are the rentals at panther? I know when I went airsofting I hated the masks which kinda spoiled it so I kind of want my own head gear.

The rental airsoft guns there are okay, or u can post for a rental from a club member. I would agree that using rental eye pro sucks. They always fog a ton. But you can get a set around here for not too much.

Ok so here is the revised plan. Borrow gun from friend and find some eye protection. Ship everything I originally was going to purchase like mags, battery, chest rig etc. EXCEPT the gun which I'll research and buy from somewhere in Canada. However I will also contact airsoft GI and see if they can garentee that the gun will arrive on my doorstep and get it in writing. Thanks for all the info!

If you do ship to Canada, you can get hit with duties as well. There are several guys here that have tried it all. Some win some lose.
And remember, a full metal gun can last a long time with just internal upgrades or repairs, polymer externals or lowers will not last as long so depending on gun you might have to buy a whole gun when it breaks.
And welcome to the sport of needing a second job to buy all the stuff you want!
