Operation Iceback Updates

Post2014-03-01 / 00:42 UTC GMT +00:00

Hi there guys,

First, I realise you have another thread running, but it seems to be more of an internal thread, and I'd rather not hijack it. Would rather not step on any toes.

Second, I wanted to let you guys know that I have been confirmed by Stuart, the organiser for Iceback, as the new Commander for OpFor in light of Julian (Optix) stepping down. He mentioned there was interest from LMAG, and also that last year, it seemed as though there were concerns that LMAG was 'left out.' I don't want a repeat of that, as events such as this should be an opportunity for the various Clubs to unite in a common goal. Namely, kicking the collective asses of the Albertans. All in good fun, of course.

Lastly, although I do apologise for the... rudeness of this, I wanted to let those that don't know that I, along with my partner Faust, have launched a new forum at omegaops.forumotion.com. We have a section there where we are trying to build a list of all those attending Iceback, and I would love it if you could have a representative post up who all from your group is intending to attend. If you like, you are of course free to join the community there, as I would like everyone to participate in the coming discussions on Iceback, or whatever else. I will also be posting updates and such as I receive them, and will be starting an 'FAQ' thread, shortly.

I would very much like to be able to roll you guys into any plans that get put together, provided you're intending to play for OpFor, that is. ;) I am hoping we can all work together on this to make this an epic event. I know that Stuart has some big plans, and really wants to give us all something to talk about.

Again, I apologise if this is the wrong forum, etc. But I wanted to pass the information along, so no one feels like they're in the dark.

Thanks, and see you out there.

Thanks for the update. We have had a link to the Omegaops going for a couple of days, unfortunately over the Panther issue.
Anyway now we know who started the site and will definitely be regulars. Also last game day I talked with a couple other players and early numbers say we could have at least 20 guys just from LMAG. Hope this helps and we will be signing up for Iceback soon. I don't know what you guys have for time but there is No Room In Hell on Van. island in July.
Some people think I am trying to be sneaky, its really that my eyes are not as good and I have to make sure its a tree and not the enemy! Trees do not call hits. I have shot a few.

To be honest, I've been so busy with life stuff, I wasn't even aware of the dates for the Island game. I knew something about there being one, but not the specifics. So, thanks for the heads up. There hasn't been much talk of it, that I have heard, but that's likely just because various other things have been taking up peoples attention. Some of my squad may be interested, though I can't speak for anyone else'

20 is awesome. I've made an update on some of the more basic information I've been given in the Iceback forum, and we're going to need some good numbers of strong, capable teams. Good to know you guys will be one of them.

Glad to see we have a replacement opfor commander so quick. Those Iceback boys are on top of their stuff. I'd expect most of the LMAG people that will go will be Tier 1, we have our own teams within LMAG and will likely want to break down into squads based on our teams we normally play with.

Thank you for the information Jukebox.
Information is very much need for the members to know what they will be signing up for and a source of questions. I as well have been speaking to Stuart, mostly by email or LinkedIn site. Any information you have and able to help answer questions would be just awesome. Last year's event we had little to no feedback on this event and allot of players missed out. I do hope this year will be much different since "EVERYONE" is very interested in this event this time round. I will be going now we have a date and fee broadcasted early, a huge help I might add. Regardless of club/organization, the lower mainland community , and a few island boys/girls wish to go.
Congratulations on your new roll and thank you for the heads up!

If you speak to Stuart again tell him to answer the emails , lol, I know he's busy.

cheers

Heh. Aye, getting 'hold of Stuart can be a challenge. Faust and myself have worked with Stuart on Iceback 1.0, with Faust doing the majority of the heavy lifting in the creation of his website. We know how challenging it can be, but the man really is busy. As I've said, he has some big plans that I truly hope he gets off the ground. I don't want to give specifics, purely because if they don't happen I don't want Stuart catching grief, or myself, for failing to live up to expectations, you know? But, either way, he's breaking his back to try and make the event memorable. There will be quite a few surprises out there for everyone to, ahem, discover.

I'm sure you are all aware of this, but helo insertions and raft insertions are available this year. I did the helo last year because, hey, why the hell not? It was a lot of fun, and a cool thing to say I did. This year, space is extremely limited for BOTH. I have been told we, OpFor, will be limited to, very likely, one helo and one Raft. This might change if there is enough demand, but bottom line is that if anyone you know of is interested, they'd best be signing up for these things, ASAP. Although it is kind of a nasty thing to say, I and Stuart would prefer if the raft gets filled up with Tier 1 guys, or really dedicated boys. There are... plans, and we need some good, strong, mature players to step-up. ;)

On the topic of the rafts, Stuart had limited options this year, and is really disappointed that he was only able to secure rafts with no motors. So, you're gonna have to row yourself to shore. I'm sure you're all big, burly men, however, and will do just fine. Any gear you don't want to take on board the boat can be given to Iceback staff, and it will be delivered to your landing site, for you to claim. They did the same for the Helo insertions, and it worked out great. This keeps your precious kit dry, and out of the river. He is trying desperately to locate a source for Zodiacs for coming years, so if anyone knows anything that might help, fire it his way - or mine, and I'll pass it along, with credit to you.

Also, I saw you have rules posted, and that's great. They are talking about a few changes to the rules, mostly to do with vehicles and the impending 'night ops.' They haven't nailed down the specifics, but if I hear anything final, I'll pass it along. Likely I or Faust will know pretty quickly, so we can make changes to the Iceback website. They'd like to have the vehicles 'destroyable' this year, so they're trying to figure out the best way to do that safely, and in a fun manner. I'd suggest if you have grenade launchers, mortars or sticky grenades, you maybe put that in the 'to pack' pile. :D

Just to let you know, alot of us are gonna be going full-retard for gear on this sim. I know a bunch of us are going to be getting NODs, hopefully some DBALs, ripped fuel to go full gen. kill Cpl Ray Person. It's pretty easy to say that alot of us will be dropping close to $800 for gear for this sim. I know my shopping list is in and around that price range. But alot of us LMAG guys will being going Tier 1 (most of us are getting the tier 1 style beards growing right now), and will be wanting to just absolutely destroy and pillage the tan team.

Most excellent. Exactly what we're gonna need. They'll have a sizable force starting at FOB 2, which cuts FOB 1 off from any direct reinforcement. We're gonna need a pretty heavy push on that locale to take it back. I and my squad were stationed there last year, until we received orders to abandon it, near the end of the day. Intention was to try and let ISAF gain some ground, as things were looking bad for them. Kinda looks like it bit us in the ass this year, but gives us something to look forward to, this time around ;)

FOB 2 had next to no soft cover, and is on a hillock, with a few berms and such around. The plan by the Iceback team is to try and build it up this year, with trenches and berms, if they are able to swing it. But, either way, we're looking at a slog across open terrain, or WWI style warfare. Gonna be a hard push to grab it back, all while defending our other positions.

Just wanted to say, many of the Albertan teams have extensive CQB experience, but not as much out in the open, or wooded, terrain. In that sense, we have a slight advantage. We found that, when at range, we had the upper hand. Something to keep in mind.
