Correcting the AOE with Sorbo pads.

Post2013-11-11 / 05:27 UTC GMT +00:00

A Sorbo pad is essentially a rubber bumper that reduces the impact force on the gearbox shell. Sorbo pads come in all different shaped, sizes and hardness’s that gets glued on the cylinder head of your AEG. By using the correct sorbo pad you will reduce the chance of cracking your gearbox shell and make your AEG a little bit quieter. Using a sorbo pad will normally reduce your FPS slightly because you are essentially taking away air volume in your cylinder.

Correcting the angle of engagement.

Angle of engagement is the angle in which your sector gears first tooth meets up against the pickup tooth of your piston. The key to long piston life is correct angle of engagement.

As you can see in the picture above the first tooth of the sector gear is not picking up the piston tooth flush. It is on an angle and therefore the AOE is off. Using your AEG in this condition will lead to premature failure in your piston, or you can snap some teeth off your sector gear.

In the picture above you can clearly see that the first tooth of the sector gear is connecting to the pickup tooth of the piston flush. This is what perfect AOE looks like.

To check your AOE you must push your piston into the cylinder all the way. Spin your sector gear so the first tooth makes contact with the piston and see how it connects. Using a sorbo pad will push back the piston in it forward position resulting in a better AOE.

to go one step further in the reason for AOE, notice the gear tooth to piston tooth contact, what you are trying to achieve is the most amount of contact area when your gear tooth first makes contact with your piston, this will lesson your chance of "shearing" a piston tooth.

noticing the picture where the contact is too far forward at "1-2 o'clock" the gear tooth will actually push the piston upward slightly as there is some movement of the piston while in the cylinder (can also jam the piston as it try's to slide onto the rails), this makes for less initial contact area, more stress on the piston tooth, higher chance of piston tooth breaking.

Ideal contact is 12 o'clock.

Sorbo pads are an other option for saving your gear box from breaking and the silencing effect isn't a bad thing either.

just make damn sure you install them properly, if the pad comes lose from your cylinder head or piston head depending on the style your using, the pad will twist inside your cylinder and just become a pile of poop blocking air from exciting the nozzle!
