Spring guide.

Post2013-11-07 / 16:38 UTC GMT +00:00

The spring guide does pretty much exactly what it says. It guides the piston spring straight back. Essentially it is a plastic or metal insert that your AEG spring gets installed onto. Once your spring guide is secured by the two halves of your gearbox there is normally a screw that gets inserted into the back of it to keep it straight so the spring doesn’t bind.

From my experience this part is a non wear item and usually lasts forever. I have never heard of a spring guide failure but I’m sure it has happened somewhere. There are different materials used for spring guides. Delron, aluminum and stainless steel build materials seem to be the most popular. Some spring guides have a ball bearing attached to the base. This helps keep the AEG spring from twisting which can result in longer spring life. each version gearbox has a slightly different spring guide so make sure you get the correct one for your application.
