Thinking of getting into airsoft.

Post2013-07-21 / 15:43 UTC GMT +00:00

Hey guys. Recently ive been thinking of getting into airsoft and have been looking at gear and realize i have no idea what to buy. I'd like to get a decent gun that i can eventually upgrade if needed but hopefully one im not gonna outgrow. I was wondering what sort of guns and gear you guys would recommend? Is it worth saving a few bucks and buying used? Also what do you figure a decent basic loadout would cost me? Thanks in advance for all your tips. I have a few friends im trying to talk into playing to so i wanna make sure i can help them get started too. I'm planning on starting to collect gear soon and hopefully start playing in the fall. Thanks.

Hmmm where to start with this one

Firstly, welcome aboard.

Ok let's start out with your first Platform aka Gun/rifle. There are so many to choose from and my advise to is go out and visit any local Airsoft stores and fondle a few rifles and Smg's to see if you like it's style or not. Most common rifles are:
M4-M16 series and variants
AK series and variants
G36 series and variants
M14 series and variants
FN SCAR series and variants
SIG series and variants

The most common SMG's are:
MP5 series and variants
MP9
MP7
FN P90
Uzi

There are other odd balls out there as well such as Masada, L85A1/A2, Steyr AUG series, FN rifles, F1/F2 Famas,UBR, etc etc. This is only the tip of the icebreg as there is a huge list of platforms out there and lets not forget WW2 guns too.
So shop around as to what interest you.

Next is gear options. Basics is Camo pants and jacket. Jeans just stand out all too well. Many surplus places or stores carry many patterns of camo to choose from. Next would be a good pair of boots either military style boots or hiking boots. You'll need something to go thru mud, water and have good ankle support. This should be enough to get you up and running. Next on the list would be a Red kill rag. Anything red cloth would work or store bought red bandana. Now, we're getting into vest's. There are allot of basic vests out there to support your platform that you chose to field with extra mags, bb's, bb loader, tools, radio and extra pockets for what ever you need. Eye protection is very important. Any PB goggles is acceptable as well as any Ballistic sealed goggles as well. No mesh or Shooting glasses are not allowed.

This should keep you busy in your research into Airsoft. And by all means ask questions as we're all here to help you and each other.

Thanks Airmax and Recon for the replies. I went to gorilla surplus and purchased a g+g m4, it came with a battery and charger (I'm gonna take recons advice and get a good smart charger) i also bought an extra mag and battery and a nice sight and rail attachment. The gun is just entry level but shoots really nice. The money i saved on the gun im gonna use to buy all the gear i need and a nice side arm. Im planning in the winter to replace the gun with a full metal one. Planning heading out to panther either this sunday or next and see what this airsoft things is all about. Cant wait. The guys at gorilla are very nice and know their stuff and id definately recommend them to anyone living in vancouver. Hope to see you guys on the field soon.
