So if you haven't I'd check it out http://www.ucsgc.com/iceback-2015.html.

I'd like to hear thoughts on the new style and factions.

Just saying this now I'm going nomad

Looks interesting.. The uniforms/clothing are going to be very confusing in the field.. All 3 say limited use of military clothing. If I do go this year I definitely will bring a sleeping bag and a foam mat or air mattress. With last year having so many breaks in action and changes to start time I'm uncertain if I want to jump on this, I will probably wait to see who is interested in going first.

well from what I read it seems to be more organic in nature than last years force on force which felt really scripted in a way if that makes sense.

but ya I'll be bringing more camping gear thats backpack friendly for sure

Role playing? Are you kidding? Organizers need to realize that airsoft players want to shoot their guns and try to out maneuver the other team. And of course the newer players just want to shoot their guns.
There was a military like Milsim last spring, and most of the time was they sat in the cold doing nothing I heard.
I am no pro but having helped run games for a few years I learned to keep it simple stupid!
Glad I missed this year and gonna miss next year too. Iceback has an 0 for 2 record right now and it looks like 3 is next year.

To add to bushman, 2014's sim wasn't run too well. To many ceasefires called for unknown or stupid reasons, no night fighting (even though it was promised to be a 48 hour sim) and Tier 1 teams were doing tier 3 work, and vice versa. There weren't too many cogs in that machine, and it still had trouble running and broke down. Now they wanna add 100 more cogs into the machine without getting the original ones sorted out and fixed. They need to nail the art of running a proper milsim before they do this post-apocalyptica type scenario that they are still advertising as a "milsim". I didn't think that a game of that sort would fall under the category of Military Simulation. They need to learn to crawl, then to walk, then to run, then to sprint. Then went from being able to crawl and then decide to tackle sprinting. I don't see their 2015 sim going well with this many moving parts.

Best idea, a proper force on force milsim.

TO have a true milsim you need all players to be in the same mindset. Iceback was fun for me only because of LMAG and all the awesome players I got to play with. As a whole, I was slightly disappointed, no night games, water break cease fire.. players were "tired" and took 3 hour nap breaks, long periods of no firefights, lots of trash talking and minimal action.

as a whole, I think the organizers should offer a discount to repeat players for there bad execution of the last event. The people planning Iceback are a great bunch of guys and they obviously put a great deal of time into it. I just think things need to be massaged out.

100% agreed. I'd go to a lame event with that group any day :p

It sounds like an attempt to make this not the annual "BC kicking Albertan ass" milsim like it usually is.

As a newer player I was sorta looking forward to the 2015 game after hearing all the awesome stories from the 2013 event. Wasn't ready for this year's game so passed on it but heard it wasn't that great and was another seal clubbing festival of sorts.

That said, I was expecting a milsim event not a rag tag apocalyptic scenario event. I mean its interesting but like others have said, it looks an attempt to balance out the game by sorta mixing up BC & AB teams.

Not sure if I'm really interested in the 2015 event, with all the AAR's saying 2014 wasn't that great and I'm not sure how well a post apocalyptic scenario game with so many additional mixed variables would work out. I mean its simple enough to meet any of the clothing/uniform requirements but with all the possible variety, it seems like it might be confusing to ID who's friend or foe. Tbh, sounds like a recipe for a larger and longer weekend skirmish, not sure if that's a good or bad thing though.

I almost went this year...after hearing feed back from trusted fellow players that went, I am glad a didn't, the reason , this has a very expensive fee and the travel is not just across town, so when you are told a SIM will be a certain style and duration you make your decisions and expectations based on that, I was told that very little ran as scheduled or advertised with many interruptions and delays!

now it looks like instead of building off of short comings and make improvements too... there is a complete revamp of a story line and starting something new and untested?

I cant discriminate effort and enthusiasm, obviously lots of time and effort go's into these events, but possibly reinventing the wheel is not the best approach?

Good old head to heads with objectives, prisoners, ammo drops, force patrol etc. etc. are king! force on force is what people want to do (majority speaking), uniform ID is always a cluster, confusion and frustration, keeping that as clear and unmistakable as possible can make or Break a SIm.

Before I would spend $400-$500 on a weekend of Airsoft it would need to be pretty convincing.
