Dust Cover Won't Close

On my aeg (g&g tr418 light) i seem to have a problem where my dust cover will not close. I always used to have a problem where the dust cover will take a couple tries to close and if simply tapped it would open but i assumed it was because of the blowback and had to be loose. Now for some reason the dust cover will not stay closed no maatter what. Any thoughts? Any ideas on fixes?

on any of the blow back m4 style rifles i have seen the dust cover / ejection port cover gets opened any time it is fired and this can wear out the little plastic tooth that holds it shut (plastic on some anyways) ... it is possible to flip the spring so it will hold that port shut at all times although that will also cover the mock bolt thats moving back and forth for the blowback action

Not nessecarily, it messes with my inner ocd but its not a huge issue. My only thing is, why would they put it in there if its useless? Will it cause any damage to the gun if dust or dirt get in there?

Besides the G&G blowback series, basically every G&G, or at least every G&G I have held, has a charging handle that literally does nothing. Its just a piece of metal on a spring that retracts once you let go. It does not open the dust cover or nothing. Same with the forward assist.

Same could be said about the blowback action itself. Really, its useless. It's just a bunch of extra moving parts that can break, just so that a little piece of metal goes back and forth when you pull the trigger.

G&G models in the GR and Top Tech/GT line can come equipped with a blowback module, which makes the dust cover kick open upon actuation. The charging handle is linked in, so actuating it will kick open the dust cover. CM series guns do not come equipped with a blowback module, and the charging handle is not linked in/just for show.

If the dust cover is sticking, it can be caused by one of three things:

-Wear on the locking tab on the dust cover. If the unit is worn down, it will no longer engage correctly in the receiver. This is the least common occurring issue.

-Injection flash/shape irregularity on the locking tab on the dust cover. The opposite of the previous point. I've seen a few tabs that don't engage correctly, and are light/temperamental in staying closed. This is usually fixed easily enough by cleaning it up so it engages correctly with the receiver.

-Bent/misshapen blowback plate. I've seen a few guns where the owner has been a bit rough when separating the blowback plate from the gearbox, and bent the plate. This will usually result in the plate not traveling freely, affecting blowback stroke, but if the section that interfaces with the dust cover tab is out of place, also can cause the plate to perpetually "open" the spring loaded locking tab. This is the most common issue I've seen.

Regardless of cause, the function of your rifle will not be affected by the dust cover remaining in the open position.
