MOD: bring new life into a old AEG motor.

Post2013-08-30 / 06:31 UTC GMT +00:00

today I read something rather interesting. I read that you can clean your AEG motor and make it run faster by getting all the carbon and build up off the magnets and terminals. The wife is working late night and im all alone which could only mean one thing............ ;) experiment time.

Motor: guarder infinite torque up motor.
Never washed or cleaned, approx 60,000+ round.
m120 spring installed, 410FPS .20
7.4v 15-25c battery= 11.12 BPS

Start by removing your motor from your AEG. Find a tall plastic glass that you can fill with FILTERED BOTTLED WATER. Using an old battery (8.4v NICD) I ran some wire from the motor post to my battery which of course made the motor spin. Fully submerge the spinning motor into the filtered water and give it roughly 10 min. you should notice that the water gets filthy black. Replace water with fresh water when you feel it is necessary. After 10-15 min of underwater goodness I pulled the motor from the water and let it air dry (I am impatient and used a hair dryer, low heat)

I reinstalled the motor to the same gun and gave it a test fire.

Same battery, 13.56BPS  over 2BPS faster just by cleaning the motor.

On a 11.1 it shoots 23.40BPS which is stupid fast IMO. :D

Anyways give it a try if you want to get a little more pep out of your AEG.

Will this also improve trigger response?

It's funny you posted this, last weekend when we first started I had a fresh battery but my AEG sounded like the battery was dying, I didn't have my spare battery with me. As the game went on the speed increased to normal.
I talked to Char later that night and he told me my motor might be packing it in.
I talked to Airmax he said it could have been my battery but I haven't been able to try it out and I may not be able to try my other battery for awhile so I'll have to give this a try.
Thanks!

this is actually an old trick i used to use when i was racing RC cars way back when(25+ years back... did i just date myself somewhat...) i would do this between race days or between races if the track was dusty enough. i dont think youd need to run it for that long under in my opinion just dunk it several times then switch to fresh water and dunk a few more times... 10-30 seconds at a time... running under water can be hard on the brushes and commutator, i used to wear out a set of brushes in a month or two and the rest of the motor maybe a year and a half
