Ground Intel

As promised, I am developing a map from the available data for use during the game.

Some of the source data will come from:
(map) http://geogratis.gc.ca/site/eng/extract ... 9.51206319
(elevation) http://geogratis.gc.ca/site/eng/extract ... 9.54410123
The data has forest cover, buildings, roads, railways, contours, etc. It's the same set that is used for NTS and MCE maps.

I might need to extract a photo from Google Maps (to keep cost down) and manually rotate it.

Also, I'm going to provide a secondary map which uses the ICEBACK grid for reference when dealing with the organizers. If the map turns out well, maybe I'll offer it to them to replace what they have.

That site is huge. I'm setting up the data and the 50 m grid you are all familiar with is too much for this site.

Latest map version, comes with magnetic declination calculated, 100 m grid, and 5 m contours (2 m also available).

Still need to add information not available in maps: Donald Cemetery near 63-49 and the new-growth forest between Waitabit Creek and the gravel pit. If you have any other items you want to add, please let me know.

Also, have a look at 71-56 where the map shows a campground.

Update with georeferenced imagery from Province (via Bing) and FOB locations from Marauders' map.

When all the intel is shown on the map, I'll turn off the imagery and we'll have a good mil-type map.

Thanks!

Here's a version with the original UCSGC grid (red) overlaid for reference. It's very funky.

Would you want me to show it on the map somehow?

I guess that depends on how areas will be communicated to us. If jukebox and crew will be using the quadrants maybe we should have it as reference.. It does clutter it up like crazy though.

I'm coordinating with Jukebox so they have our coordinate system on their map. The only people communicating in UCSGC coordinates is UCSGC.

Consider this, if I knew how to reach UCSGC by email I would lobby them to use our map (without our alphanumeric grid square references). So they could use MGRS-like coordinates in their game orders and indirect fire requests.
